The eIDAS regulation is an EU regulation which puts in place a framework for governments and the private sector so that they can trust electronic communications and transactions like electronic signatures, timestamps (proving at what time data existed), electronic registered mail, identification and authentication of people and organisations, etc. It allows to replace paper based processes with electronic processes with a similar legal value and a higher level of security.
